Some Vietnam combat vets put Vietnam out of their memory for good reasons but I can not.
Let us not forget Operation Wayne Grey
MARCH-APRIL69 and the men who fought and gave their their lives. Probably the American public still today never heard of that battle but we know. I am a veteran of Hill 947 and I always think of the men of Company D and our brothers of the 3/8.

Happy belated New Year to all of my 4th. ID comrades. Some of you may know me as one of the "Boat People" that went to Nam in Sept. 1966.
I was one of the medics in the 9 Days in May battle on 5/26/67 with the 3rd platoon of C Co. For those of you that may not know, there is a book being written about those nine days, and the author is looking for guys of the 3/8 because he's having trouble finding us that are willing to give our accounts.
If you are willing to have some imput, his name is Warren Wilkins and he writes for US Naval Press. His email is: warren.wilkins@threatswatch.org

To the son of Paul O.Cox. The Cox I knew was My platoon SGT. an E-6. He used to call me vick because it was too hard to say my name. I was hit in the head by a sniper twice the second time knocked me out Sgt Cox revived me and had me call in an air strike. While we were trying to pass on information I was trying to take out the sniper and Sgt Cox was running back and forth trying to get the smoke grenade placement coordinated. He was fearless and determined. he would come back to my location while fire was still being directed at my head.I lost the use of my right side for awhile and was unable to move well. Sgt Cox moved me back and forth when he felt it was necessary. Don't know why. I had great respect for him. I think he was a carrer soldier. Without men like him we wouldn't have the military we do.

I didn't see him after the fire fight. I was dazed for many days after that and only then did I have the wherewithall to try to take count. I hope he is well

Several months ago I heard a couple of vets talking in the local grocery, about being stationed in the Highlands. I sidled up and found that one was with C Batt 6/29 Arty and had fired at least two support missions for my brother's company. (He transferred to 3/8 in March 1970 when the 1/35 was "sent home.") C Batt 6/29 was supporting his unit on 4/19/70 in the "Shenandoah Valley," a tributary of the Song Con east of LZ Hard Times. Pat, of the C/6/29 Arty, and I met today to talk about our perspectives, he as veteran and I as "sole surviving son." Thanks to everyone for your service and sacrifice, and to all the ones KIA, many libations.

Can anyone answer this Question?????

Doc - I want to locate a guy from A company (name unknown) who was wounded in the foot or ankle on the night of 11-8-67. I was with A and D but I believe he was with A because all of the KIA that night were A and he and I were in a fighting hole with a KIA. Who do you know that I can contact to get help with this ? The old guestbook was over run by spam bots (robot programs) and had to be removed. Our website was shut down due to this on 23 DEC 2012. I got it back on line the next day.

This is a new guestbook program and should be easier to use (no more email replies needed to post)

I have copied and and pasted in all the posts from 2012. I am working on a way to link or post the messages from 2004-2011.

Happy New Year Brothers...

My wife Joyce and I decided to take a long deserved vacation to Niagara Falls. While talking with Jack Frye (another Ivy veteran, he said, "You had better come visit us. After going to Niagara Falls, we drove to Maine to visit him and his wife, Sylvia, Stan and Pat Benner, and their friends Becky and Don. We had a wonderful time, ate lots of Lobster, and shared many long forgotten stories. We will never forget that visit.
